The more rigorous math student may find it helpful to combine this work with the proofs in Jacob&amp;#8217;s Geometry. With a variety of applications from technology, investment, nature, sports, there are topics sure to interest almost any student.  It will certainly discourage the &amp;#8220;When am I ever going to need this?&amp;#8221; question.  In addition to comprehension questions about the material, there are applications, review exercises, and explorations.  It&amp;#8217;s a great introduction to secondary mathematics and will leave your student wanting to study more.&lt;/p&gt;

    <content type="html">&lt;p&gt;With the possible exception of &lt;a href="/product-review/plastic-pattern-blocks"&gt;&lt;span style="color:a7a;"&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Plastic Pattern Blocks&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt;        
 this is the most used manipulative in our home.  Base ten blocks are my favorite for teaching place value and operations. I use these quite often with the &lt;a href="/product-review/tops-level-2"&gt;&lt;span style="color:a7a;"&gt;&lt;em&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Techniques of Problem Solving Level 2&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/a&gt; to help kids understand how to solve a problem.  You can use the blocks in many ways without a book.  If having a resource to help you is more your style, choose this one.&lt;/p&gt;</content>
